Curriculum packages such as Camp on a Disk developed at Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy provide activities, building instructions, video clips, background information, terrain map templates, and prop building instructions to develop engaging educational experiences for students that contextualise their robotic activities. 

The packages provide an example of project based learning in which students engage with problems to be solved within a contextual narrative that allows students to focus on the thematic story, and the real life roles they take on when completing the problems they are challenged with.


The Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy has developed an extensive range of resources to support the use of educational robotics.

Deep Space Terraformers

Deep Space Transformers allows students to complete a series of robotics activities where they perform various tasks related to terraforming and alien planet. The kit contains details on how to create various maps and props of several moons and the planet Pantheon where it is transformed by students. Uses NXT Lego Robotic (White Bricks) Kits.

Dataloggers - Code Red at Green Geyser

Dataloggers allows students to complete a series of robotics activities to gather data in an environmental park. The kit contains activity guides, video introductions, details on how to build a mapboard of the wilderness, and the props that go on the map. Use the RCX Lego Robotics (Yellow Brick) kits. 


Aquabots - Voyage to Sea Lab Nautilus

Aquabots allows students to complete a series of robotics activities to gather data in a simulated undersea research lab. The kit contains activity guides, video introductions, details on how to build a mapboard of the undersea area, and props that go with the map. Uses the RCX Lego Robotics (Yellow Brick) kits.


P.R.O.B.E - SPace Mission Adventure

P.R.O.B.E allows students to simulate the exploration of Mars by completing a series of robotic activities. The kit contains activity guides, video introductions, details on how to build a mapboard of the Martian surface, and props that go with the map. Uses the RCX Lego Robotics (Yellow Brick) kits.
